Strong demand for Murray Grey Females
The 28th Annual Island State Sale for Murray Grey Beef Cattle held at Powranna on Monday 9th May, 2011 saw strong demand for the 28 females and 11 bulls offered by six studs from northern and north western Tasmania. A good crowd with registered bidders from all states of Australia and from around Tasmania watched Tim Woodham, Roberts Limited, auctioneer the Murray Grey cattle that saw bulls top $10,000 and average $3,812. First bull into the ring, Lot 30 Wiltshire Endeavour, offered by R & C Wilson, Wynyard sold for $10,000 to Webb Mining who was also a volume purchaser with seven females including the top priced joined heifer, Lot 1 Wiltshire Zoe E6 for $4,000. Other volume purchasers were T & M Oliver, Pipers River, Vicstock and R & H Dann, Queensland.
Cam Grove sold their 8 joined heifers to a top of $2,000 and 8 bulls to a top of $4,500 to R Walker, NSW.
Parknook offered 1 bull and 9 females. T & M Oliver purchased the bull, Parknook Sultan and two females. Other Parknook females purchasers were R & H Dann and J & J Sturgeon both from Qld, Webb Mining and D Gray, Arcadia Murray Greys.
Big Park sold a 3 year old cow, Big Park Dozer D8, with her heifer calf at foot by Onward Samto Woodbourn Murray Grey Stud for $3,250.00. Woodbourn principals C & J Wallace commented that Dozer was" a deep bodied functional cow" and have been supporters of Big Park Murray Grey cattle for many years. A two year old heifer, Big Park Annabel E15 PTIC to Big Park Enzac E27 was purchased by Central Coast Greys from Ulverstone; one yearling heifer, Big Park Wilma F21 will make Queensland her new home being purchased by R & H Dann for $1,000 and the other yearling heifer, Big Park Aprilia F25, sold for $900 to Vicstock. We would like to thank all purchasers for their support and hope the cattle will continue to perform.
Central Coast Greys offered 2 joined heifers which realised $1500 each through Vicstock.
Sixteen joined heifers topped $4,000 averaged $1,976; 6 unjoined heifers topped $2,000 and averaged $1,800 and 6 cows topped $3,750 and averaged $2,270; for a total clearance.
