Tiz A Masterpiece's full brother Big Bad John emulated Tiz by winning the Oliver Wendell Holmes Pace on Saturday 6th August, 2011.

Posted on Aug 08 2011

Even money favorite Big Bad John left his opposition to it when easily winning the second division of the $102,750 Oliver Wendell Holmes Pace for harness racing 3-year-old colts and geldings at the Meadowlands today (Saturday August 6). His time of 1:49 was a career best.

Driven by David Miller, Big Bad John settled third before taking the lead just before the half. Thereafter he simply blitzed his six opponents off the racetrack.

High Noon (Ron Pierce) and Mystic Desire (Tim Tetrick) were second and third respectively. Sectional times: 27, 54.1 and 1:21.4.

Miller said the son of Western Hanover left no doubts he was best horse in the field.

"He's been racing good all along. He was sick for a while but the rest has done him the world of good. As you saw today he did it pretty easily," Miller said.

Trainer Ron Potter (Delaware, Ohio) said he would now pick and choose what races he would line the colt up in.

"I think his next start will be the Battle Of Brandywine. His scheduling hasn't really worked out of late so I'm mindful of placing him correctly," Potter said.

Asked if he thought Big Bad John was now well and truly back Potter replied:"I think he ‘was back' when he won at the Meadows on July 16. He's just gone on with it today."

Big Bad John has now won 13 of his 17 starts and amassed $516,732 in purses.

He is owned by Winchester Baye Acres Inc, Ocala, FL and was bred by Kentuckiana Farms Gen Par, Lexington, KY.
