El Jays Angel - Gem Mare

El Jays Angel has now had 6 winners for 6 to the races, 3 this season. Saloon in Sight, Its a Hoot and Call Me James have all won this season and El Jays Maverick has had several placings this season. El Jays Angel's only daughter, El Jays Belle has also produced a winner, her first foal, two year old Daisy Adele won the Belmont in Launceston and the Sales Classic Final for Fillies. Big Park owns 10 mares and 8 of those mares have had race winners since January 2010. So where should you be looking for your next yearling? Big Park will offer six yearling fillies at next years sale, race winners and brood mares of the future.

Call Me James makes bold race statement

Fearless gelding Call Me James broke his maiden status with a bang when he came from last to win heat one of teh Eric Reece Memorial over 2090metres at Hobart on sunday 20th June, 2010. Call Me James settled last following a solid lead time of 35.65s before letting loose on the back straight, he sprinted sharply between the 600m and 400m to take up the lead at the top of the straight. Call Me James showed great strength to the concluding stages to win over Broughton and the race favourite Levina Leis. Call Me James is by Time Stands Still out of the top producing mare El Jays Angel and was sold by Big Park to Bill Fawdry at the 2007 Tasmanian Yearling Sale. Call Me James injured a tendon when spooked during a thunder storm, as a two year old and it has been the patience and care of Bill and Tamara Fawdry and trainer Dick Eaves that has enabled Call Me James to return to the track and show once again the ability he has. Call Me James has a brand that ends in 007, so as a foal Big Park called him James, James Bond! Look out for Call Me James in the final on 4th July, in Hobart.

El Jays Modeena wins at Devonport

After only eight starts our 3 year old filly, El Jays Modeena, who is raced by us and a syndicate of our acquaintances, broke through for a good win in the Gwen Williams Patron Appreciation Pace at Devonport on Monday 24th May, 2010. She lead all the way and when challenged by Ell Ess Babe fought back to hang on by a one and a half metres and ran the last quarter in 59.1. El Jays Modeena is by Modern Art USA out of Windeena.

Sales Race win to Daisy Adele

The very talented Daisy Adele, by Artesian, took out the $20,000 Yearling Sale Classic Final for 2yo Fillies at Hobart on Sunday 23rd May, 2010. Working home very nicely, Daisy Adele scored easily by 6.8 metres. The $13,230 first prize cheque takes the daughter of Artesian's earnings to $23,248.

Purchased for just $5,500, Daisy Adele was bred by Lyndon and Gail Menegon and is the first foal of the Times Stand Still mare El Jays Belle.

Its Only Words Retires

The well bred Western Terror filly out of the top producing mare Poetry that was purchased in 2007 by Lyndona nd Gail Menegon has been retired. Only having a limited number of starts and receiving a bad check in one of the races, she was X-rayed to reveal a big crack in her knee. Its Only Words will be going to the breeding barn this season.

Saloon in Sight Victory

Victorian motor racing identity and harness racing enthusiast Garry Rogers continued his successful run in Tasmania when Saloon in Sight made a winning debut at Devonport on Wednesday 31st March, 2010. Saloon in Sight scored by one and a half metres over Bymarjac. Rogers purchased Saloon in Sight for $14,500 at the 2009 Tasmanian Premier Yearling Sale. He returned this year to pay slightly more for the horse's half brother. Saloon in Sight, by Western Terror from El Jays Angel, was bred by Lyndon and Gail Menegon of Big Park stud. He is a half brother to four winners including El Jays Maverick and El Jays Belle. Saloon in Sight is trained by Philip Ford and was driven by Scott Ford. "We'll head towards the 2YO Sweepstakes now and maybe the sales races later in the season but I don't think we'll see the best of him until he's three", Philip said.

Belmont Stakes winner produces 2010 Belmont Stakes winner.

El Jays Belle's first foal Daisy Adele, by Artesian, won the 2010 Belmont Stakes in impressive style on 31st January. Daisy Adele was purchased at the 2009 Tasmanian Premier Yearling Sale by David Sutton and David Arnott for $5,500. Daisy Adele is trained and driven by David Arnott's son Andrew from Carrick. Andrew is quoted as saying " he has never had a two year old that can go the same times on the (training) track." El Jays Belle won the Belmont Stakes in 2005.

Big Park sold all the yearlings they offered at the 2010 Tasmanian Premier Yearling Sale held on 16th January at Inveresk. Lot 7 an impressive colt by Jr. Mint out of El Jays Belle sold for $4,500 to P Dornauf, Lot 10 an exceptional colt by Life Sign out of El Jays Angel sold for $15,000 to G Rogers, Lot 15 a very correct colt by Artiscape out of Highview Goldie sold to D McLaine for $10,500, Lot 26 an outstanding filly by Grinfromeartoear out of Hawkette sold to C Knowles from Victoria for $10,500, Lot 31 another outstanding filly by Jr. Mint out of Superior Stature sold to P Medhurst for $5,500. Lot 39 a colt by Life Sign out of Milday Veronica was withdrawn from the sale as he has a hernia but is for sale privately. We wish all purchasers every successs with their horses, and we will follow them with great interest.

The Ticket to Heaven mare, El Jays Angel, has now produced 5 winners from her first six foals, with the outstanding win by It's a Hoot at Tattersalls Park, Hobart on Monday 25th May, 2009 and the first up win by Saloon in Sight on 31st March, 2010. It's a Hoot, by Brioso Hanover is trained by Adrian Duggan and was purchased at the 2008 Tasmanian Premier Yearling Sale. Saloon in Sight, by Western Terror is trained by Philip Ford and was purcahsed at the 2009 Tasmanian Premier Yearling Sale. El Jays Angel's progeny not to have won, Call Me James, ran second at his first start before injury sidelined his racing career for the time being. We also sold at the 2008 Tas Premier Yearling Sale, Spot Nine by Life Sign out of our mare Minerva Reef. Spot Nine to date has had five starts for one win and two placings. Spot Nine is trained by Terry Knowles at East Devonport and owned and raced by The Jackpot Racing Syndicate. Monday 25th May, 2009 also saw a break through win for Karoola Town, at his 33rd start which included 11 placings. Karoola Town also won the final of the Eric Reece Memorial on the 5th July, 2009 at Tattersalls Park, Hobart and has followed up with a win at St Marys on New Years Day. Karoola Town is by Sports Town out of Highview Goldie, and is owned and trained by Doug McLaine at New Norfolk. Doug purchased Karoola Town from Big Park at the 2007 Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

Murray Grey News

Island State Sale Results - Big Park Daicos sold for $3,750 at the Island State Sale at Powranna on 10th May, 2010, to strong supporters of Murray Grey cattle and the sales in V Abblitt of Redpa. The two cows with Autumn drop calves at foot each sold for $1,500. Big Park also sold, to strong demand, one led yearling heifer Big Park Vitello E22 by Onward Sam, for $2000 to C Watling of Smithon, who we understand is starting up a Murray Grey stud.

New Stud Sire for Big Park. Big Park in partnership with Woodbourn Murray Greys, purchased at the 2010 National Show and Sale the Junior Champion Murray Grey Bull, Onward Jeremiah to add to their already strong bull battery. Onward Jeremiah is sired by Onward Manuka and was bred by Sue Francis of Dorrigo, NSW. Onward Jeremiah is half brother to our already outstanding sire in Onward Sam. Onward Sam won the Supreme Champion Interbreed Beef Bull at the 2009 Scottsdale Show in November.
