Big Park Standardbreds - Founded 2006

Big Park Standardbred Stud is available to supply Artificial Insemination services for standardbred mares. Big Park has two qualified AI technicians, with Gail and daughter Sheryn Fenton both having passed the AI and Stallion Handling Course at Glenormiston in December, 2007. In July 2009 Gail successfully completed an Advanced Equine Reproductive Management Short Course conducted by the vets at Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital. Sheryn had previously worked for three breeding seasons at Berriedale Stud, and has therefore brought valuable experience to the operation. Breeders have access to chilled semen from the best stallions available in Australia and New Zealand.

Big Park has 10 mares of their own with the aim to breed and offer the yearlings at the Tasmanian Premier Yearling Sale, held at Inveresk in January each year.

We have bred and raced for our own pleasure many horses over the past 20 years. Since June 2006 we have purchased 8 mares; Superior Stature, Highview Goldie NZ, Minerva Reef NZ, Windeena, Hawkette, Milady Veronica, Annbolyn and Seduce to increase our breeding barn to 10 mares, with El Jays Angel and El Jays Belle. Our aim is to breed quality yearlings to sell at the annual Tasmanian Sale. We purchased from the 2008 APG Melbourne Yearling Sale a well bred filly by Western Terror out of Poetry, with the intention of adding her to our breeding barn. We named her It's Only Words and she had a few starts as a three year old but after having a heavy knock in a race was diagnosed with a large bone chip in her knee. We have retired her to the breeding barn.

Big Park sold their five entries at the 2010 Tasmanian PremierYearling Sale. Thank you to our purchasers and underbidders for your interest. The colt by Jr Mint out of El Jays Belle sold to Peter Dornauf for $4,500; the colt by Life Sign out of El Jays Angel sold to Gary Rogers for $15,000; the colt by Artiscape out of Highview Hanover sold to Doub McLaine for $10,500; the filly by Grinfromeartoear out of Hawkette sold to Craig Knowles for $10,500 and the filly by Jr Mint out of Superior Stature sold to P Medhurst for $5,500. We wish all purchasers the best with their horses. Lot 39, colt by Life Sign out of Milady Veronica was withdrawn because of a hernia but is for sale privately, he is the full brother to Lifes Awesome.
